Charlie Murdock
Vocals / Piano
Charles Murdock is a multi-instrumentalist Jazz Major at George Mason University with a focus on voice and piano. He studied jazz voice and scat singing with the faculty of GMU, including Dr. Darden Purcell, and studied jazz piano with Professor Wade Beach.
Charlie has played music since childhood, performing and listening to music of all genres. He has performed as a soloist for the Mason Jazz Vocal Ensemble at Blues Alley, Mr. Henry’s, Virginia Music Educators Association, and ACDA. He had the wonderful opportunity to be a featured soloist at the JENN 2024 Conference.
Charlie is always looking to expand and share his musical knowledge of jazz and other genres with students of all levels, encouraging them to explore what they enjoy, and to learn how to express themselves honestly. He teaches a combination of theory, pedagogy, and improvisational techniques with a focus on listening to help students understand what they’re hearing. Applying intentional listening to understand the music a student enjoys is paramount.
